About Burning Designs by Beth
My name is Beth, and I am the person behind every product you see here. I have been wood burning off and on since high school (which was far too many years ago). While I enjoyed it, it got set aside after high school when I joined the Coast Guard. I was active duty for 7 years before I got out to go to school and get my degree in Elementary Education.
During my pursuit of my degree, I married a fellow Coastie and got pregnant with our son. I got back into wood burning in order to create some inexpensive decorations for his room. Then I created a toy box. And then some shelves....and then I started burning designs on to boxes as gifts. With strong encouragement from friends and one very kind Etsy seller, I opened my Etsy shop the beginning of 2013.
All of my items are wood burned, by me, by hand. Depending on the design, they may be colored with oil pencils, then given a "wash" to resemble watercolors. After that is done, they will all be either stained and varnished, or sprayed with a polyurethane. This helps to protect both the wood AND the design. I have expanded from boxes to plaques to jewelry, and have begun creating custom-designed wedding boxes using the designs on the recipient's wedding invitations. These wedding boxes have become a best-seller since they were introduced!
I am proud to say that every box I burn is hand made in the U.S., and the majority are made locally here in Portland, Oregon. I try very hard to take care when sourcing *all* of my products so as to avoid the cheap, low-end reseller items. The products I have are made to last for years to come.
I invite you step into my world, take a look around, and feel free to ask questions. I love to do custom work, so please don't hesitate to ask about an idea! Thank you for taking your valuable time to come see what I do :)
